Always meet in very public places:
Be near other people. If someone suggests a quiet meeting place, wait until you get to know them better.

Make your own arrangements to and from the meeting place. Arrive alone, leave alone, and don't give anyone your address until you are absolutely certain you know them.

If you do mention you live alone and exchange addresses, mention that you have an 'nosey neighbour', or that friends always drop by unexpectedly.
